Kew Gardens is host to one of the largest collections of plants
from around the world. The
gardens were created by combing two royal estates in 1772,
under the patronage of George III Kew Gardens developed into
one of the world's foremost centres of horticultural research.
Victorian green houses stand crammed full of
luxuriant tropical growth, recreating the environment of plants
from every habitat, desert, swamp and rainforest. Even in
the middle of winter the gardens and the greenhouses hold
a splendid display for all tastes. Kew has the first gallery in the world dedicated to botanical art and is open to the public all year round. The gallery will exhibit precious works of art from Kew’s and Dr Shirley Sherwood’s collections, many of which have never been on public display before.
