The Old Operating Theatre
Museum 9a St. Thomas'
Street London SE1 9RY +44(0)02 7955 4791
If you want to know what an operation would have been like over a hundred year's
ago, then this is the Museum to visit. Hidden in the roof of a church the operating
theatre was uncovered only a few years ago, and shows how operations were carried
out on a wooden operating table with sawdust to mop up the blood. If you stand
in the spectators gallery you can almost hear the screams of the patients as they
where being operated on!
