Shepherds Bush Empire was built in 1903 as a music hall where a variety acts performed including Charlie Chaplin then in 1953 it became the BBC Television Theatre. The BBC filmed a large number of programmes there including Crackerjack, Hancock's Half Hour, The Old Grey Whistle Test, The Generation Game, The Basil Brush Show, This is Your Life, Jim'll Fix It, almost all the BBC's light entertainment music shows, such as those starring Cliff Richard, Cilla Black, Shirley Bassey, Petula Clark, as well as the UK's Eurovision Song Contest preliminary heat, A Song For Europe. From 1985, the theatre exclusively use by Wogan, which was broadcast 3 nights a week. Since 1991 it has operated as a music venue.
The venue is on the west side of Shepherds Bush Green, situated between the Walkabout and O’Neills. The Capacity is 2,000, there is seating or standing within each section of the venue. Ground Floor standing/seating, Levels 1,2,and 3 seated but not everyone is guaranteed a seat so there is standing at the back of the balconies. Traveling to Shepherds Bush Empire is easy, the nearest tube is Shepherds Bush on Hammersmith & City line or Central line; or Goldhawk Road on Hammersmith & City line. The nearest rail is Paddington, and Buses include 72, 94, 95, 220, 237, 260, 283, N11, N12 and N27.
