Howlett Wild Animal Park was set up by John Aspinall in 1957 as a private zoo, it was opened to the public in 1975. Located near Canterbury, Kent it covers 90 acres of parkland and is home to the largest breeding family groups of gorillas in the world. The zoo also has one of the largest captive breeding elephant herds in the UK as well as Lion Tailed Macaques, Clouded Leopard, Banded Leaf Monkey, Black Rhinoceros, Indian Tiger, Giant Anteater and Snow Leopard.
