History Opened
in 1891 the Palace Theatre Manchester's fist show was Cleopatra. The theatre struggled
at first to make any profit as the public felt that the productions it was showing
where to highbrow. After several years of dwindling audiences and profits the
theatre started to show more popular performances. In the early part of the 20th
century the theatre gained a reputation for making artists of it's own. The theatre
has seen performances from some of the biggest names in the entertainment business
including Danny Kaye, Gracie Fields, Judy Garland, Noel Coward and Laurel and
Hardy. The theatre now shows major musical performances and touring West End shows
including Cats and Miss Saigon Productions Thoroughly
