Kensington Palace, has been home to some of Britain's most famous kings and queens and members of the Royal Family. Whilst parts of the palace remain a private residence for members of the Royal Family, the State Apartments and Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection are open to the public. When Diana, Princess of Wales died following a car accident in Paris 1997, thousands of people paid tribute to her by laying flowers outside the gates of Kensington Palace.
