London Sport
London has a wealth of sporting events all year round, this section is just a brief look at what you can catch whilst in London.

Cricket
The Cricket season runs from April to September and most matches are played outside London in the Home Counties. However London does have the top two cricket grounds in England, Lords and Foster's Oval. Both of these grounds have matches on throughout the year and tickets are usually available on the day, costing under £10 for the day.

The Boat Race
Britain's oldest two universities Oxford (the dark blues) and Cambridge (the light blues) battle it out in this once yearly event to see who can make it form Putney to Mortlake the fastest. Usually held on a Saturday afternoon in spring this is a great day for all the family and is free.

Ice Hockey
Yes, that's right London has its own Ice Hockey team called the London Knights. They where set up in 1998 and play at the London Arena mostly at weekends. The Ice Hockey season runs from September to March and tickets are from £10 for adults and £6 for children.

The London Marathon
The London Marathon has become one of London's top events and anyone can take part and raise money for good causes. Thousands of runners run for Greenwich to The Mall covering the 41.6km course. Athletes set off first and celebrities and ammeters later on, it is great to see all the different costumes that a lot of people run in.

Football
Football is the most followed sport in England with most local areas having their own football team. London alone has 14 football teams, and on a Saturday afternoon you will find many Londoners at the match. The football season runs from August to May, but some matches can be called off in the winter.

Tennis
Wimbledon's centre court is world famous and for the last two weeks in June the whole of London goes tennis mad. Tickets are available on the day and discount tickets are available for the afternoon session.
