Mike Leigh's
classic drama which, like many of his other comedies, casts
a sharp critical eye over the English class system. Abigail's
Party, immortalised in film in the 70's and originally starring
Alison Steadman as the shrill host Beverley, centres on an
uneasy evening of revelations. Too much drink and not much
laughter as the atmosphere turns sour and relationships deteriorate.
