The Tamer Tamed.
In The Tamer Tamed, John Fletcher's hilarious sequel to The
Taming of the Shrew, Petruchio gets married for a second time,
and is tamed by his second wife, Maria. Written 20 years after
Shakespeare's original, but within his lifetime, John Fletcher's
The Tamer Tamed was written as a calling card to Shakespeare
in the hope of prompting future creative collaborations. Jasper
Britton returns to Petruchio and Alexandra Gilbreath plays
Maria as they explore the flipside of this comedic interplay
between husband and wife.
The Taming of
the Shrew.
The Taming of the Shrew
is perhaps the most famous play ever written about the battle
of the sexes. Petruchio arrives in Padua looking for a wife,
a rich one. The wealthy Baptista has a daughter, Kate, whom
he wants to get off his hands, but she has a reputation as
a shrew, a scolding tongue and a fierce temper. Petruchio
also has a reputation, as a wild boy. Will he take on Kate?
And who will tame whom? Alexandra Gilbreath plays the spirited
Kate in this tempestuous battle of wills with Petruchio played
by Jasper Britton.
