The State Rooms form the heart of the working palace and are lavishly furnished with some of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collection - paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Poussin and Canaletto; sculpture by Canova; exquisite examples of Sèvres porcelain; and some of the finest English and French furniture.
For the first time ever and for this summer only, visitors to Buckingham Palace will experience the spectacle of the Ballroom set up for a State Banquet. The horseshoe-shaped table traditionally used at State Banquets will be set with dazzling silver-gilt from the Grand Service and adorned with magnificent flower arrangements. Lavish displays of tureens, dishes, ornamental cups and fine English and Continental porcelain will flank the table. Film footage will show the behind-the-scenes work of Royal Household staff, including chefs, footmen, pages, florists and housemaids, who ensure the highest standards of presentation and delivery.

The V&A’s spring exhibition, China Design Now, will explore the recent explosion of new design in China, from the 2008 Olympic stadium to the most interesting fashion and graphics. The exhibition captures a dynamic phase as China opens up to global influences, and looks at developments in three rapidly expanding cities - Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. It will display the work of Chinese and international designers, focussing on architecture, fashion, youth culture and graphics as well as film, photography, product and furniture design and digital media.

Hard Rock Calling 2008

Returning to Hyde Park over a decade after his last headlining performance, the legendary Eric Clapton will headline Saturday 28th June, and will be joined by special guests Sheryl Crow and John Mayer, with more acts to be announced shortly. The Police, following their hugely successful world tour, are to headline on Sunday 29th June with special guests KT Tunstall and Starsailor, again with more acts to be added to the bill.

Torvill and Dean are bringing their hit TV show DANCING ON ICE to the live arena in 2008. The Dancing On Ice live tour is set to bring it's magic and sparkle to the length and breadth of the UK. Like the TV show, will be an exciting, interactive celebrity Ice Dancing competition featuring many familiar faces from the TV series. The judging panel will give their views and verdicts, some popular some not!!, and you the audience will be able to vote for your favourite couple. The audience votes will be added to the scores from the panel of judges to decide the winning couple. Torvill and Dean will even be performing a few of their own favourite routines as well. An evening of fun family entertainment!!

Some of the greatest portrait photographs of the twentieth century were taken for, or published in, Vanity Fair. This remarkable selection of 150 classic images features works from the magazine displayed for the first time including Albert Einstein, Charlie Chaplin and Jean Harlow. And from the magazine's re-launch in 1983, the works of photographers including Annie Leibovitz, Helmut Newton, Bruce Weber and Mario Testino are featured, depicting a wide range of subjects from Arthur Miller to Madonna.
