History
When it was first opened the building was a pickle factory
for the Crosse & Blackwell. Since then the building has
been a music hall and a theatre, with shows such as Elvis,
starring Shakin Stevens. The Astoria then became a studio
where TV programs were recorded including Jukebox Jury
with Jools Holland. For the past 12 year the 1,200 capacity
Astoria has been a live music venue, with concerts by Nirvana,
Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Metallica, Oasis, Prince, U2,
Eminem and The White Stripes among others. In May 2000 the
Mean Fiddler acquired the London Astoria securing it for the
future as a live concert venue.
